NFSW Community Spotlight: Jussi Kauppinen and Kevin Johnson

It's a Double Friday here at Need for Speed World! We're not only holding 2 Fun Friday contests, but we're also profiling two community members for this week's Spotlight.

Go on the NFSW forums and you're bound to chat with these guys or participated in contests they're holding on behalf of NFSW. Of course, we're talking about none other than all-star moderators Jussi Kauppinen and Kevin Johnson!

Let's get better acquainted with Jussi and Kevin!

Tell us about yourself

My name is Jussi Kauppinen, but some people may know me as jsskppnn. I'm a 39 year old racing game enthusiast from Finland. During office hours, I'm your average white-collar worker, but after work and on weekends, I log myself into NFS World and become one of the World's most notorious street racers.

How long have you been playing NFSW?

My friend installed a trial version of Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed for me about 11 years ago, when I had just gotten my first 3D capable PC. I instantly fell in love with that game because of its huge car collection and superb visual and performance customization options. I have played every Need for Speed game that was released for PC since then and I even got myself High Stakes, which was released before Porsche Unleashed. I've liked all these games but only loved those which could bring me the kind of visual and performance tuning options I associate with the series, due to Porsche Unleashed being the first game in the series I played. My favorite games in the series are Porsche Unleashed, Underground 2, Carbon and now Need for Speed World. I also liked ProStreet, Shift and Shift 2 Unleashed but since I am a keyboard driver, those games never became my all time favorites.

What’s your favourite car(s) in NFSW?

My current favorite is the Skyline 2000 GT-R. I also like my Porsche 959, Ford Escort and all three classic muscle cars. I hope to see a lot more vintage automobiles coming to Need for Speed World in the future.

Your most memorable experience in the game?

It has to be the first time I tried the game at NFSW's HQ in Vancouver 2 years ago. The game wasn't even translated to English yet. More recent memory is from a night when couple of my friends and I cruised and raced around the World in our vintage Skylines, joining multiplayer matches together and cruising to the next location after the races. It was a lot of fun.

What do you like most about NFSW?

I love to paint my cars in the vinyl shop. The system is maybe even better than the one in Carbon. I also like the fact that this is a play-for-free game where I can use real life currency to keep up with those of my friends who have more time to play than I do. What makes World better than some of its competitors is the fact that there are no level limitations in SpeedBoost purchases. The best thing about World however is that it is being built together with the community and it keeps evolving and getting bigger and better every week.

What other console or online games do you play?

I try to play all racing games that get released on PC. If there is a demo or beta test available, I play that and decide if I want to get the full game or not. Sometimes I wait to get the games from the bargain bin, but if it's something I really want to get, I'll pre-order it.

Favourite cars/driving scene in a movie?

I don't have a single favorite, but I really like the driving scenes in Luc Besson's Taxi and Transporter movie series.

What song or music do you rock out to while playing NFSW?

I have a couple of Country Music online radio stations I like to turn on when I play. If product placement is allowed, I can reveal that they are Country Power Station and B98.

When you’re not playing NFSW, what else are you up to?

I have been a Need for Speed forum moderator for EA since June 2006, so that takes a lot of my free time. I also have my own little racing game forum called International Street Racing Community, where I have been organizing weekly Picture Based Racing Competitions for almost 5 years now. The races are currently on hold, but will definitely pick up when Need for Speed The Run gets out.

Star Trek or Star Wars?

This is a really easy one for me, as I have never seen a Star Trek movie or even a full episode of the TV show. I liked the original Star Wars trilogy a lot when I was a kid but even then, Battlestar Galactica was my choice of sci-fi action. I do also like the new version of Battlestar Galactica a lot. Did you know it was made in Vancouver just like NFS World?

Tell us about yourself.
Hello, My name is Kevin Johnson otherwise known as T0TALfps within the EA Community, I'm a 20 year old who works as a Digital Artist & Website Designer, located on a sunny beach resort within the east of the UK. I'm pretty much a nocturnal gamer, due to being able to choose my own 'office hours' - I work night and day sometimes. However, between all that, I am having a blast in games such as Call of Duty, NFSW, and Battlefield titles.

How long have you been playing NFSW?
Around the second wave of closed beta was when I had started playing NFSW. However, most of it was for sending in reports about a few bugs which I had constantly pestered to get fixed.

From playing NFSW a while and then noticing that the forums were in need of support, (and after my extensive years in building, administrating and moderating several online communitys), I put forth my candidacy to NFS Drew to assist in the forums. A few weeks later, after getting support from the team and being welcomed with open arms, I started to assist the community and put things into place for the community to function better.

After a year and a bit, I am still here, moderating and working on ways to grow and maintain a positive community.

What’s your favourite car(s) in NFSW?

I am a fan of Japanese sport cars, so the Nissan GT-R R35 is top-trumps for me. From the speed, looks and customization options - it really is the perfect ride for me. Hopefully more import cars are inbound, its a sure purchase for me!

Your most memorable experience in the game?

I think it's hard to say what the most memorable experience for me is, as everytime I log into NFSW, I'm always getting a different experience, be it social or racing. I'll be controversial and say most memorable experience for me is when the Snowflake arrived. It was all the rage for a few days and the streets were chock-a-block with them, and now...today, it is pretty rare to see one racing around the streets. Its a newborn vintage! Long live the Snowflake.

What do you like most about NFSW?

Players who know me well, know that I truly love designing my rides. I love it so much, I even started to share that experience with the forum community this month by announcing the debut of the VinylDesign competition. Clearly, I am not the only one who loves creating awesome vinyl work. It's always nice to see something shiny on the top of your car. Sometimes I roam around the streets purely looking for awesomely designed rides. That's the best part about NFSW for me, the customization - And what's even better is that with customization, the possibilities are endless.

What other console or online games do you play?

For PC, I am a massive fan of the MMO's, currently I'm playing City of Heroes, RIFT Online, APB Reloaded and also awaiting the release of Secret World and Star Wars: The Old Republic. However, most of my gaming is dedicated to the consoles, especially the 360. I can spend a ton of hours with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops and on top of that, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor. (Can you guess where the name TOTAL FPS comes from?)

Recently I have been playing a lot of L.A. Noire, Deus EX: Human Revolution and also Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. I am mostly a first-person shooter type of guy. In a gaming industry that is becoming swamped with first person titles more now then ever before, it's time to branch back to my old time loves of role-playing and adventure titles. Broken Sword and Monkey Island anyone? Battlefield 3 is also just around the corner, and with a heavy season of releases to come, gaming is better then ever before!

Favourite car and/or driving scene in a movie?

My favourite driving movies have always and will always be the Fast & Furious titles, more specifically 1, 2 and Tokyo Drift. But the underground/illegal scene with juiced up rides is always a ticket for me. Drifting too. My most favourite scene has to be the part where Sean Boswell tries drifting for his first time - starts off with a shiney car at the top and by the time it gets to the bottom, it's a complete wreck! I hope one day the writers and directors of Fast & Furious venture back to those long lost days, I mean..they were the best, right?

What song or music do you rock out to while playing NFSW?

I listen to a whole mix of music ranging from artists such as Lykke Li, La Roux, The Foals, Tinie Tempah, Adele, Birdy, Hadouken and entire albums of Dubstep. Yep, i'm another one of those zombie people who find Dubstep to be the boss!

When you’re not playing NFSW, what else are you up to?

Im usually at home working on a few commissions, tackling the forums for about 12 hours a day, or out at the office in meetings. Sometimes I'll go to the beach to have a nice jog along the coast, or go swimming at the center nearby. I've recently gotten back into photography, so I'm exploring woods, beaches and other areas for those all important landscape shots.

Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?

This is a easy one. Harry Potter without a shadow of doubt! I'm only 20 years old. That means I was practically born around the whole Harry Potter phenomena. I've grown up reading the books, watching the movies and even listening to Stephen Fry's audiobooks of Harry Potter. I was constantly surrounded by it from a very young age, so anything about Harry Potter, even to this day, I am completely addicted. I'll be the first to admit that the final Harry Potter movie had made me shed a little tear.

The final movie came out days after my 20th birthday, so in a sense, it was signing off my childhood with that last movie. It was all a bit emotional! However, I still have awesome memories: reading the books, marathon style, with a group of friends when I was like 10 years old and going to the cinema to watch Harry Potter with my first 'serious' girlfriend at 11 years old. The Harry Potter movies will always remind me of my childhood.

NFSW Community Spotlight: Bruno Fernandes

Brazil, the home to world famous beaches, the Amazon Rainforest, the Brazil Grand Prix, the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics and NFSW gamers like Bruno Fernandes! On this week's Community Spotlight, we profile a community member who lives for music, movies, Porsches and NFSW! Oh, and he's a rockstar on the race tracks as well!

Let's get better acquainted with Bruno from Rio de Janeiro!

Tell us about yourself

My name is Bruno Fernandes and I’m from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I’m 23 years old and I work as a content manager in a record label. I’m also a law student. My friends joke that I only attend university because I wanted to be a superhero but failed to join the Justice League. I believe this is based on my addiction for exact numbers, fairness and positive results on everything. My current car is a Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor and I treat her like a part of the family. By the way, my family is just me and my dogs.

How long have you been playing NFSW?

I’ve been playing the PC titles of the Need for Speed series for years, and I’ve been in World since beta. My driver name is JustWatchMe, and I’m online almost every night. I usually chat in channels 1 and 10.

What’s your favourite car(s) in NFSW?

I'm a big Porsche fan! I have once visited their plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Germany, and it remains as one of the most remarkable experiences of my life. So, my current favorites in NFSW are Porsche 911 (both the Turbo and the GT3 RS) and 959, the legendary 80’s supercar every Porsche fan dreams of!

Your most memorable experience in the game?

My most memorable experience was actually when a new feature was added to the game, when the number of possible car slots was unlocked (previously limited to 5). I could then start building my collection, buying at least 1 new car a week. I can say this experience still goes on, as I’m getting more rides all the time!

What do you like most about NFSW?

I just love how you can do nearly anything on a car to make it suit your taste. The vinyl customization system is extremely advanced when compared to other racing games and I’m able to do exactly what I have in mind when I purchase something new from the car dealer. Obviously, like any MMO game, some stuff could be improved. This is why I’m an active member of the community: I’m always putting my opinion and suggestions to be heard, and the game management is always there to listen. NFSW is evolving each day and I’m very proud to be part of it.

What other console or online games do you play?

I have to confess that I’m not a gamer. I have a PS3 but I don’t even have any game to play on it, I only use it to watch Blu-Ray movies. I’m probably buying an X-Box soon, so let’s see if I start playing more games. However, it’s very unlikely that I’ll play some racing game other than World in the near future!

Favourite cars/driving scene in a movie?

All James Bond movies! The Aston Martin is a legend when it comes to movie cars. Also, I like the scenes with Angelina Jolie and the red Dodge Viper SRT10 in “Wanted”. Last but not least, the new music video of “I Wanna Go”, by Britney Spears, featuring 2 of the most amazing Volkswagen models ever built: the New Beetle Turbo 2012 and the Karmann-Ghia 1968.

What song or music do you rock out to while playing NFSW?

One of the best things of working at a record label is that I work while I race! I'm listening to everything that I need to approve or reject, while playing World. So it’s mostly unknown music. Side note: every time I’m listening to something that I really like, my racing skills dramatically improve. Freud, please explain that.

When you’re not playing NFSW, what else are you up to?

I also race real cars with friends in a private circuit almost every week. This is like religion for me. I actually tried to be a professional race driver in the past, but my parents encouraged me not to. Well, they actually forced me not to! My mother thought it was too dangerous and you know, mothers always pick the safe side, while father's safe side is usually to agree with mother. So they made me give it up and now I take it up only as a hobby, with very safe cars, in a strictly maintained private track.

Nike or Adidas?

Adidas hats make my head look smaller while putting my hair back together, so they are a must-have. For shoes, I pick Nike because I feel like I'm floating while I walk, I don’t know how they do it. And barefoot is cool as well!

Thanks a lot! Need for Speed World for the win!

NFSW Community Spotlight: SergeantCT920

Today we shine the Community Spotlight on a gamer who’s been a fan of the NFS franchise since 1999 and a beta player with NFSW in the early stages. He’s very active in the game and chances are you’ve seen him around in World or have checked out his Youtube channel featuring NFS games. He’s even got a video up showcasing the Aston Martin V12 Vantage that we released this week!

Let’s get better acquainted with SergeantCT920!

Tell us about yourself.

My name SergeantCT920. I have Youtube channel featuring video walk-thoughs of Need for Speed games. I’ve been a Need for Speed fan since I was 11 years old. My first NFS game was Need for Speed High Stakes. That game has amazing cars, tracks and an awesome soundtrack.

How long have you been playing NFSW?

I was a beta tester for Need For Speed World Online Beta 1 since March 5th, 2010. That’s when the name was change to Need for Speed World. During my beta days, I got to chance to see what changes were made in the game before it was released nationwide.

What’s your favourite car(s) in NFSW?

Hmm, tough choice. I don't have any Tier 1 cars but my Favorite Tier 2 is the Audi TT RS. I have 12 Tier 3 cars and I'm stuck between the two fastest Tier 3 cars: the Lamborghini Murciélago and BMW Z4 GT3. They’re both nice cars. But I’ll have to say Lamborghini Murciélago, because its very fast (depending what parts I put in) for races and driving in free roam.

Your most memorable experience in the game?

During the beta stage, a group was hosting a car show to show-off their rides and go on a world cruise around the Highway. That’s where I met some awesome people: Speedy4395, Dillano609, George17, rcgldr, Bojan03, nicking24 and Boxxout. I still talk with them today in World or on Skype.

What do you like most about NFSW?

What I like most about NFS World are the pursuits. Pursuits is my favorite game mode because escaping away from the cops is fun (depending of heat level). I'm always on heat 5 due to the feds with their Corvettes. Destroying property and smashing through roadblocks is fun, even making epic flips or doing a barrel roll.

What other console or online games do you play?

I play racing games like Carbon, Shift, shooting games or adventures game on my PS3.

Favourite cars or driving scene in a movie?

The Shelby GT500 from the movie, Gone In 60 Seconds. The pursuit scene where they’re escaping from the cops in the Shelby GT500 was epic.

What song or music do you rock out to while playing NFSW?

I just listen to any music on my Ipod or my Macbook Pro.

When you’re not playing NFSW, what else are you up to?

When I'm not playing NFSW, I like to hang out with my friends, go to the beach, drive from place to place and travel.

Batman or Superman?

Superman for 5 Reasons: flight, laser eyes, ice breath, super strength and Lois Lane is hot!

NFSW Community Spotlight: Obi Nkwonta

This week we spotlight a community member who not only enjoys racing in NFSW but also goes so far as to make movies of his gameplay! Recording and editing his movies with iMovie, Obi Nkwonta then uploads them to his Youtube channel.

You can check out his video of a Lotus Exige Cup 260 test drive here.

And if that wasn’t enough, Obi also has his own blog where he writes about, what else? Cars and NFSW. That's one serious racing fan!

Let's get better acquainted with Obi Nkwonta from New Jersey, USA.

Tell us about yourself.

My name's Obi Nkwonta, or as many NFSW Youtubers call me, The Teenage Transporter or RAZORX33. I'm 18 years old and live in New Jersey. I love everything involving cars, ever since I was just a baby and my mom bought me a Hot Wheels car. I'm currently a college student studying science, but I keep racing as a pastime.

How long have you been playing NFSW?

Since the Beta stages in early 2010.

What's your favourite car(s) in NFSW?

Oh boy! I really don't pick favorites in terms of cars because I love all cars, except the ugly ones. I also have about 31 cars in my World Garage due to my obsession with SpeedBoost. But my favorites so far would be my peppy T2 Lotus Exige Cup 260 because its grippy and fast, my T3 Porsche 911 GT3 RS because it's so unbelievably fast, and Zack's T1 VW Scirocco because it's the best looking compact car ever. Also, if the Bugatti Veyron or the Pagani Huayra make it into World, I'll include them on my list.

Your most memorable experience in the game?

Wow! I've had a lot of experiences in this game, but my most memorable was this race I was in at the Financial District with my Exige. This other gamer in a weirdly customized Elise showed up and called me a noob because of my level, which is 28 by the way. As we were racing, the Elise guy showed some skill, but I didn't back down. When I closed the gap between us, I quickly dropped a Traffic Magnet on him while in the Tunnel, which managed to slow him down. I ended up winning that race. I was so proud.

What do you like most about NFSW?

The cars. When I started playing the Beta back in 2010, I thought this game would be boring because the NFSW team would basically bring every car made from Most Wanted to Undercover. Now, after over a year of racing, that's not the case. I mean, we have the Audi A1 Clubsport Quattro, BMW Z4 GT3, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lotus Exige Cup 260, Audi TT-RS, etc. These cars weren't in any of the old games, which makes this game much more exciting!

What other console or online games do you play?

Well, I used to play Test Drive Unlimited 2 because of the real-world places and the numbers of cars, but I've stopped because of bugs that they haven't fixed for about a year now. I have a PS3 and am into serious racing simulations like Gran Turismo 5, Need For Speed Shift, Shift 2 Unleashed and DiRT 3. I'm planning to get an Xbox 360 this fall just to get Forza 4.

Favourite cars or driving scene in a movie?

My favourite driving scene in a movie has to be when Han and Gisele drive on the Autobahn in a sleek matte black Lexus LFA in Fast Five. I've always wondered how you can drive at 160 MPH while kissing your girlfriend on your lap at the same time.

What song or music do you rock out to while playing NFSW?

It depends since I have a big music library on my laptop. But, as some of have heard in movies, I usually rock out to Demons by South Central or The Tempest by Pendulum. These tunes make the game exciting!

When you're not playing NFSW, what else are you up to?

I'm either making a movie of the car I drove in the game, studying for a college course, or reading an action book. I usually try to keep myself occupied.

Will Smith in I, Robot or Will Smith in ID4 (Independence Day)?

Definitely Will Smith in I, Robot. Why? Because he drives a futuristic Audi R8.
